MGH's MRI department is accredited again by the American College of Radiology, a national organization which awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards.
MGH has a new Philips HFO® open MRI unit which offers patients three times more space than a typical closed unit. The extra space provides more comfort and greatly reduces claustrophobia by allowing patients to feel less confined and restricted.
Additionally, patients can relax by choosing what they want to see and hear during their exam. One of ten environments can be chosen including: jungle, sky, tropical island and underwater. Once chosen, they are projected on the walls along with appropriate audio and lighting, making patients feel far away from worries and concerns.
