Marion General Hospital Laboratory Receives Accreditation

The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to Marion Health Laboratory based on results of a recent onsite inspection.

The facility’s director, Dean B. Ricks, MD, was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided. Marion Health joins more than 7,700 laboratories worldwide that are CAP-accredited.

“I am very proud that all four of our lab sites – main campus, Medical Oncology, Northwood, and South Marion – have once again met the accreditation standards set forth by CAP. ‘This reaffirms the quality of laboratories as well as the dedication and hard work of our staff,” says Connie Woods, administrative director of laboratory.

The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program as being equal-to or more-stringent-than their own inspection program.

During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
