Family Birthing Center

A new life is entering the world, and the world will change, for the birth of a child is the birth of a family. This is a unique and special time that will change your family dynamic forever, and we are honored to play a part in it.

At Marion Health we strive to make this moment in your life a special experience, with personal attention that centers on you and your family. We call it the Family Birthing Center.

It is our belief that care should focus on the safety and comfort of the mother and child while providing the flexibility that encourages the involvement of the entire family.

We offer everything you need for your baby, including free classes, prenatal appointments, and a neonatologist as an active member of our medical staff.

Birth Checklist

Prenatal Classes

The Prenatal Classes are a three-class series. Each class if full of information for the mom-to-be and her support partner. Topics will include prenatal care, comfort measures in pregnancy, what to expect during labor, birth, and recovery.

Our lactation team will be on hand to teach about breastfeeding after delivery and going home. We will have education on car seat safety, postpartum care for mothers, and newborn care. The classes are taught by Family Birthing Center Staff so you will get to know some faces, who might be taking care of you when you deliver.

Great Beginnings

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm sure you have a lot of questions, and maybe some concerns, as you begin this exciting journey. Great Beginnings is a free program by Marion Health that offers education, support, and community resource connection to ensure that you and your little one have everything you need.

Great Beginnings also offers a smoking cessation program to help you give up tobacco and vaping for good. If you can quit, you are eligible to receive free diapers for up to a year after delivery.

Safe Sleep Program

Marion Health is a Bronze awarded Safe Sleep facility through Cribs for Kids. All Family Birthing Center and Pediatric staff certify yearly through the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) as part of that program.

The safest way for a baby to sleep is alone, on their back, in a crib. Help keep your baby safe, learn more at www.safesleepacademy.org.

Neonatology

When you give birth at Marion Health, your baby will see a neonatologist. A neonatologist specializes in the comprehensive health of newborns.

New Mom Group

Congratulations on your growing family! Our New Mom Group meets every Wednesday from 3:30-5:00 pm in the 330/ACC medical office building directly across from the main hospital entrance in conference room 3.

Connect weekly with a certified Lactation Consultant to have your questions answered, help you with breastfeeding, weigh your baby, and connect with other moms!

The Milk Bank

You can be a milk donor or receive donated milk for your baby through The Milk Bank. By donating milk, you can help more babies celebrate a first birthday. Click this link to get started!

A milk depot is a convenient, community-based collection site for approved milk donors to drop off their donated breast milk.

The MGH Campus at 441 N. Wabash Ave. in Marion, Indiana is a Milk Depot. To set up a time to drop off your donated milk, call (765) 660-6866.

Safe Haven Baby Box

The Safe Haven Baby Box allows a parent to surrender a newborn infant with complete anonymity. When an infant is placed inside the box, an alarm is set off in the hospital and first responders rush to retrieve the baby within 4 minutes.

The Marion Health Safe Haven Baby Box is located below the MGH Campus helipad, near the corner of N. Wabash Avenue and W. Jeffras Avenue in Marion.
