Marion General Hospital Offering Safe Sleep Classes

Every child deserves the best care possible! An infant sleeps several hours a day, growing by leaps and bounds in the first year. It is very important for each infant to have a safe sleep environment.

The United States was among the highest numbers of sudden infant deaths (SIDS) in developed countries. The Safe to Sleep® campaign is promoting the safe sleep message. Even though SIDS deaths have decreased, there is always room for improvement.

In an effort to decrease the number of SIDS deaths, Marion Health’s Great Beginnings program is now offering a monthly safe sleep class. This will be held on the third Tuesday of each month at South Marion Medical Park, conference room 202, from 4:30 to 5:30 pm.

Anyone caring for the infant should plan to attend, including parents, grandparents and caregivers. Along with safe sleep recommendations, each infant under one year old will receive a Pack ‘n Play, sleep sack, crib sheet, and a pacifier. Pregnant women in their third trimester or with a child under one year old are eligible for the class.
